Return Problem Cause Solution

Peeling of paint and blistering of plaster in brick or concrete planters

Discover the potential causes and view the solutions
Lack of waterproofing inside the planter

Internal restoration of the problem – concrete planter. Empty the soil from the planter. In case there are remaining formwork ties and spacer cones inside, follow this procedure: Remove formwork ties and spacer cones to a depth of 2-3cm and coat with the anti-corrosion reinforcement protection RUST FREE POWDER. Seal the holes with DUROSTICK’s D-55, DUROFIX, D-11 SUPER FAST, or DS-247. Finally, waterproof the surface with 3-4 crisscross coats of the brushable waterproofing mortar D-1 or with 2-3 crisscross coats of the flexible, one-component brushable waterproofing mortar D-1 FLEX.

Internal restoration of the problem – brick planter. In a planter made of bricks, if necessary, smooth the surface with the resin-modified cementitious repair mortar D-55, DUROFIX, or EASYFIX, depending on the application thickness. After three days, apply 2 to 3 crisscross coats of one of the cementitious waterproofers, D-1 or D-1 FLEX.

External restoration of the problem. If the moisture has affected only the paint, sand the affected areas with No. 60 floor sandpaper, remove the dust, and prime with SOLVENT PRIMER or the micromolecular stabilizer AQUAFIX. Finally, paint with the elastomeric waterproofing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC, the acrylic paint 10 YEARS WARRANTY, or the hybrid acrylic-polyurethane paint DUROPAINT-PU.

In case the plaster has blistered, friable parts must be removed mechanically (using an adze or putty knife). Then, remove the dust and dampen with D-20 acrylic emulsion, diluted with water at a 1:3 ratio. Before it dries, apply the base coat plaster D-40 as a “dash coat,” and after 24 hours, complete the repair using the fast-setting repair plaster D-32, reinforced with D-20 acrylic emulsion.
