Clean the grout using the BIOCLEAN biodegradable general-purpose multi-cleaner. For outdoor spaces, you can alternatively use ACID TILE CLEANER. Protect the grout surface with the silicone-based tile joint waterproofer D-16 HYDROSTOP.
Blistering of plaster and paint on balcony and interior ceilings
If the cracks are hairline and the joints are stable, apply the silicone-based tile joint waterproofer D-16 HYDROSTOP. In the case of more severe cracking, remove the grout mechanically (using a grinder) or with a GROUT SCRAPER and regrout. Use the appropriate grout (depending on the joint width) reinforced with the highly concentrated building resin DUROMAX, in a 1:3 ratio with water, to create a highly flexible and water-repellent grout. In any case, creating expansion joints every 16-20m² and maintaining 5-8mm perimeter gaps at the junction where tiles meet vertical surfaces is considered essential.
Remove 2-3 tiles to check whether the underlying cement screed is damp. If this is indeed the case, it is recommended to apply the floor waterproofing mortar HYDROSTOP FLOOR, D-1, or D-1 FLEX. Next, create an expansion joint every 16-20m² and inspect for any other joint cracks that may require sealing.
The options available for waterproofing are:
-
TECHNOPROOF elastomeric flat roof waterproofer.
-
No39 elastomeric acrylic flat roof waterproofer.
-
DS-220 elastomeric flat roof waterproofer (rubber).
-
HYDROSTOP-PU polyurethane flat roof waterproofer.
-
HYDROSTOP 2 COMPONENT cementitious flat roof waterproofer with 15-year durability.
-
HYDROSTOP ROOF flexible white one-component cementitious flat roof waterproofer with 15-year durability.
-
WATERPROOF 500 2-component polyurea-based flat roof waterproofer (long-term protection).
-
WATERPROOF PU 700 100% polyurethane flat roof waterproofer (long-term protection).
If the requirement is both waterproofing and thermal protection for the structure, then applying the thermal protecting and waterproofing roof coating TECHNOPROOF THERMO provides an easy, fast, and economical solution.
Note: Depending on the substrate, a different primer may be required on a case-by-case basis. Consult the Technical Data Sheets of the products or contact DUROSTICK Technical Support.
Check the grout joints and repair them (if necessary). Remove the existing grout using a GROUT SCRAPER and then seal securely with the elastomeric polyurethane sealant DUROFLEX-PU, following prior priming with PRIMER-PU. Alternatively, the application of the elastomeric sealant and adhesive DS POLYMER is recommended. Finally, apply the waterproofing and oil-repellent impregnating sealer D-29 SPOT FREE over the entire surface.
