Energy saving, both for purely economic reasons and for reasons of environmental sensitivity, is nowadays a strong demand for Europe, but also for almost the entire planet.
Need for energy upgrading of buildings
More than 60% of buildings in Greece were built before 1980 and their insulation is from non-existent to, at best, inadequate. The energy-intensive nature of buildings in Greece is evidenced by the old-technology window frames, the failure to exploit solar energy, the sun protection of southwest facades and the inadequate maintenance of cooling-heating systems. Even in ‘newer’ constructed buildings, failures are observed in relation to their energy efficiency, due to inadequate design, inappropriate choices regarding the insulation products used, and even poor implementation practices.
